In the early hours of the morning, a group of protesters reached the municipal headquarters of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) in Morón. They removed several pieces of furniture from the reception area and later set them on fire in the street.

The incident was preliminarily acknowledged by the official newspaper Invasor, which reported that damage was also recorded at other establishments, including a pharmacy and a sales point belonging to the Tiendas Caribe chain. According to the outlet, five people had been detained by the time its report was published.

During the protests, several users on social media also reported gunshots and an injured person, although this information has not yet been confirmed.

Commenting on the events, Cuban-American congressman Carlos Giménez wrote on the social network X: “The people of #Cuba just set fire to the Communist Party headquarters in the eastern city of #Morón. The Cuban people are fed up with the brutal dictatorship!”

The demonstrations in Morón come after several consecutive days of protests in different parts of the country over the power outages, which have intensified in recent weeks.

Over the past week, cacerolazos (pot-banging protests) and spontaneous gatherings have been reported mainly in neighborhoods across Havana, where residents have taken to the streets to demand electricity and better living conditions.

On Thursday, the protests also spread to the province of Matanzas, highlighting growing social discontent across different parts of the country.
