David Alan Cooper Hi Sarah! I wanted to ask you about how often you would recommend to oil your valves and grease your slides? How much oil do you use and what type? Synthetic or Natural oils? Also, How much grease do you use and where? 2017/01/04 9:38pm

Richard Slater Richard from London! Ive had valve strings work loose before and during playing and soft brass screws losing their slot. Is there a better way to avoid a sudden loose string and an unopenable screw? Can you do a little brass Allen screw and key instead ? 2017/01/05 10:59am

Campbell in Berlin Oh, just on the end of the slides with grease?! 2017/01/05 1:28pm
Reimund Pankratz Isaac: for older horns you can use Hetman #8. 2017/01/05 1:28pm
Isaac Vargas thank you ! 2017/01/05 1:28pm
Mary i'm a non-horn player but still love it! 2017/01/05 1:29pm

Yilmaz Firs of all thank you 2017/01/05 1:31pm
Markus Rose when you are ready with the first step you work in your job for 3to5 years after that you can begin to become a meister master in english 2017/01/05 1:31pm
David Alan Cooper I can talk for the states, my brother is a repair tech and he has had a two year apprenticeship and started off repairing student instruments. It was a two year apprenticeship. 2017/01/05 1:31pm
Maarten Question: I've always wondered how the horn bell is constructed from a flat sheet of metal. Can this be shown (in short)? 2017/01/05 1:32pm
Campbell in Berlin I'll keep bashing it against music stands then :) 2017/01/05 1:32pm
Mary so is technical tarining specific to the horn? 2017/01/05 1:32pm
Nicole Kesselring If you would like to buy a horn at Alexander in Mainz do I have to call in first or can I just come and try different ones out? 2017/01/05 1:32pm
Markus Rose no prob tim :-) 2017/01/05 1:32pm
Maurizio D De Nigris there is a specific product for laquered horn? for external use... (I'm Maurizihorn, just log in with facebook) 2017/01/05 1:32pm
jrmou I use UNIPOL to clean the slides, its ok or it will wear away my horn? 2017/01/05 1:32pm
Mary Is Tim still as handsome as ever? 2017/01/05 1:33pm
Isaac Vargas oh, that's painfull 2017/01/05 1:33pm
Reimund Pankratz Hi Campbell, the flare looses tension with the time. It is really hard to tell when there is the point the flare is worn. If you have a screw bell you easily can find out the difference between the worn one and a new one. You loose compactness.... 2017/01/05 1:33pm
Reimund Pankratz .... with a worn flare. 2017/01/05 1:33pm
Tim in Melbourne It's debatable, Mary Admin 2017/01/05 1:33pm
David Alan Cooper Maarten! That is really fascinating! They don't have a bell mandrel at the shop I don't think. 2017/01/05 1:33pm
David A Question for both of you: should i upgrade from a 503 Alex to a 103? i hope this Question is not off-topic. 2017/01/05 1:34pm
Isaac Vargas what difference is there betwen lacquered nd un-lacquered horn .. in terms of sound ? 2017/01/05 1:34pm
Howard Pink, Nashville, TN I am a firm believer in preventive maintenance. I have been playing the same horn for 54 years. Always oil valves and grease the slides on a regular basis. And snake out the lead pipe every few weeks. Still plays great and everything works fine. 2017/01/05 1:34pm
Sarah from Canada One of my valves on my horn feels free most of the time but sometimes will quit. It feels like there is something stuck inside. I try to clean it and even took them out, but I didn't see anything. What is wrong with it? 2017/01/05 1:34pm
Reimund Pankratz Hi Nicole, we are building horns on order. The leadtime is around 6 months right now. You can send a mail and we can figure out everything.... mail@musik-alexander.de 2017/01/05 1:35pm
Campbell in Berlin Pencil clips are definitely the best thing about being a horn player! 2017/01/05 1:35pm
Yeoh Sarah, how often do we need to change the rotary valve string for non-mechanical valve? 2017/01/05 1:36pm
David Alan Cooper Mary wanted to know about the training for the technicians? 2017/01/05 1:36pm
Rauan Siqueira assisto do Brasil 2017/01/05 1:36pm
Alberto Hi! I'm Alberto, from Italy, I'd like to know: how a horn can be unlaquered? Can it be done at home in a safe way for the instrument? 2017/01/05 1:36pm
Andre Ficarelli In a laquered horn, is possible damage the laquer by not cleaning finger prints? 2017/01/05 1:36pm
Miriam from Dublin That noise was a bit of a drastic reaction to the Handsome Tim question!!! Hi from Dublin! 2017/01/05 1:37pm
Luke, Singapore What's the difference between a normal valve cap and a gold one? 2017/01/05 1:37pm
Howard Pink, Nashville, TN And probably don't want to know that this is an American made horn :-) But, I did get a 103 from the factory when I was stationed in the Army in Bad Kreuznach, Germany in the early 70's 2017/01/05 1:37pm
Isaac Vargas Once at the concert hall, my valves got really slow all of a sudden. The hall was really cold, does that makes a difference on the way the oil works ? 2017/01/05 1:37pm
Nicole Kesselring military horns in switzerland have non-removable bells. a friend of mine let it remove later and put on an removable bell. Should you do that? 2017/01/05 1:38pm
Handsome-ish Tim in Melbourne Hi Miriam...glad you could join..! Admin 2017/01/05 1:38pm
David Alan Cooper hahaha Tim! 2017/01/05 1:38pm
Leigh Stefan's horn has little wear spots on the valve spatulas.. 2017/01/05 1:39pm
Bec Hi Sarah! My question is: which part of the horns are 3D printed? thanks! 2017/01/05 1:39pm
Reimund Pankratz Hi Andre Ficarelli, the hand acid should be taken away with a cloth. If the lacquer is worn that is very important to clean the surface! Otherwise the sweat acid will cause corrosion. 2017/01/05 1:39pm
Mindy Does humidity and heat affect the performance of the horn? 2017/01/05 1:39pm
Heidi Are there horn playing gloves that can be used instead of a grip that attaches to the horn? 2017/01/05 1:40pm
Isaac Vargas Curious question, do all the technicians play the horn ? 2017/01/05 1:40pm
Andre Ficarelli Thanks Reimund, nice to see you! 2017/01/05 1:40pm
Serdal Akbulut Amazing video, thank you for this helpfull clip! 2017/01/05 1:40pm
Franklin Erich Hotzel From a trumpet experience, the cause of a lot of dents is having the instrument in a gig bag 2017/01/05 1:40pm
Nicole Lehmann Is it very important to empty the water out of the horn after each practice or performance? 2017/01/05 1:41pm
Reimund Pankratz Nicole Lehmann: we strongly recommend to take out as much water out of the instrument after use, before you store it! 2017/01/05 1:42pm
David Alan Cooper Also, when I leave my horn out, I practice more often! 2017/01/05 1:42pm
Andre Ficarelli Lots of cofee during intermissions with sugar could be a problem to the inside of horn, I think. 2017/01/05 1:42pm
