Hi Campbell, the flare looses tension with the time. It is really hard to tell when there is the point the flare is worn. If you have a screw bell you easily can find out the difference between the worn one and a new one. You loose compactness....

I am a firm believer in preventive maintenance. I have been playing the same horn for 54 years. Always oil valves and grease the slides on a regular basis. And snake out the lead pipe every few weeks. Still plays great and everything works fine.

Hi Andre Ficarelli, the hand acid should be taken away with a cloth. If the lacquer is worn that is very important to clean the surface! Otherwise the sweat acid will cause corrosion.

Is it very important to empty the water out of the horn after each practice or performance?
2017/01/05 1:41pm

Nicole Lehmann: we strongly recommend to take out as much water out of the instrument after use, before you store it!
