Hot Chestnut UG is John Chaudhry, Tom Müller, Oliver Kolar, and DeAnn Cougler.

The company traces its origins back to a late summer afternoon in Munich, when John and DeAnn started to brainstorm ways to promote their favourite places to go for meals or entertainment. They quickly realized that modern mobile phone technology was the best means to this end, and that having at least one young, dynamic German on the team would be the perfect way to conquer the local market and then the world. John, who tirelessly presented the infant app at networking events, found Tom who had great feedback and suggestions. Just a few weeks later, John met Olli at a start-up event at the Technical University of Munich.

The four made it official in 2018 and added Tom and Olli to Hot Chestnut UG (haftungsbeschränkt), a German limited company. In the meantime, the basic app idea has been developed into an encompassing digital experience covering all aspects of going out – from pre-ordering drinks in a crowded bar to online reservations and instant updates on events. This combines aspects of customer loyalty with real-time specials and location-based promotions.

The name Hot Chestnut touches on the English and German love of chestnuts (Maroni) in the winter and everyone’s love of sitting under chestnut trees in the beer gardens of Munich for the rest of the year.

The team

Oliver is our IT guru. He is also a lead Android developer at an IT company in Munich and is working on his Master’s in Informatics at the Technical University of Munich. On a non-technical side, Olli loves the idea of sailing around the world.

Tom, who might have been born wearing a suit, has a perfect balance of technical knowledge and business acumen. He has a degree in IT software development and is working on his second degree in IT management. . Tom is active in the Munich start-up scene, among other things he organizes the Silicon Drinkabout,and he works in innovation partnering and ventures management. We suspect that in his spare time he loosens his tie, but we have yet to see proof.

John is an international IT manager who has delivered IT technical services and all sorts of projects across Europe, Asia and the Americas. Outside of work he’s looking for the ultimate curry.

DeAnn, with a background in product localization management and technical writing, works on the human side of the equation and supports the guys in explaining the technical to non-technical people. You can always impress her with a nice bottle of red wine.
